Amphawa is the second most popular floating market near Bangkok, not as large as Damnoen Saduak but more authentic, with visitors almost exclusively Thai. The main draw is of course eating seafood grilled procariously on wooden boats moored around the famous central bridge, serving an appetizing array of huge prawns, shellfish and squid. From noon until late in the evening, the smell is simply irresistible and customers flock to each side of the river all day long. Another favourite activity in Amphawa is firefly watching at night. Boat tours for the firefly watching are available along both sides of the canal. When the sun goes down and darkness falls, the water surface will be calm and the cool breeze will blow gently. On the banks, you’ll see thousands of tiny lightening bugs partying all over the mangrove and sonneratia caseolaris trees....
